In this series of reading and writing workshops we will visit the wisdom (fiction and nonfiction) of exceptional thinkers and writers (the likes of James Baldwin, Ursula K. Le Guin, Leo Tolstoy, Seneca, Toni Morrison, Walt Whitman) to spur our own creative responses.

We will practice shared reading and use a blend of creative, expressive and reflective writing approaches – flow writing, poetry making, metaphor, life writing – as writing prompts. In this supportive, confidential space, you will have the opportunity to share your writing (although you will never be obliged to do so) and to reflect on others’ writing.

Writing for wellbeing is dynamic, intuitive, and spontaneous.  It is focused on process, not product, and frees the writer from their inner critic.  As such, no formal experience or preparation is needed, just an open mind and a willingness to give writing a try.  From beginners to published authors, participants experience newly found creativity, resilience, and self-knowledge.

Blogger Sally-Anne Lomas has written, “My Writers Journey Workshop is led by Alison Cable who creates such a safe, fun, non-judgmental space that even I can’t turn it into a struggle. Being in distant intimacy over Zoom with a group of intelligent, sensitive, funny women has made me feel playful, daring, and free. In this space both reading and writing are joyful. There’s no competition. Every voice is unique and delightful, including my own. An infusion of joy into my writing and my life.”
