Join me in London, on Sunday 28 December from 3.00-5.00 pm for a two hour post-Christmas/Hanukkah in-person exploration of Alison Bechdel’s extraordinary graphic memoir Fun Home (which, alongside Tara Westover’s Educated, is one of the two works we’ll be reading in the five-week online Growing Up:21st-Century Bildungsromanstudy). An immersion in a story of family life that may resonate strongly in the days around the turn-of-the-year holidays!
In addition to spending time on the New York Times Best Seller list, Fun Home was lauded by the NYT as ‘a pioneering work, pushing two genres (comics and memoir) in multiple new directions.’ The Broadway production that opened in 2015 won the Tony Award for Best Musical. If you are new to the world as portrayed in graphic novels/memoir, this is a great place to start.
