Written when the poet was just 22, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is considered a modernist masterpiece, glorious to read aloud but sometimes elusive in its meaning. The character of Prufrock, trapped inside his own mind, overwhelmed by the possibility of making the wrong choice is on one of the great inventions of the modern imagination. More than a century after its publication Prufrock continues to frustrate and delight readers.
Can we unlock the secrets of this poem in two hours? Through reading aloud and group discussion, we will crack the poem open and find our own, personal reckoning with Mr Prufrock.
