Travel Studies

Our Travel Studies – journeys to beautiful sites that contextualize literature – allow us to spend time with other readers in the real world. London Literary Salon retreats offer a more intensive immersion in the books than regular Salon Studies, at the same time opening the mind to places and experiences that are illuminated through the beauty of language and the companionship of like-minded people.
In 2025 we are offering two week long studies on the Greek island of Agistri: Homer’s Odyssey (28 April-5 May) and Euripides’ Trojan Women (7-14 May). There are opportunities to read Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway in East Sussex in April, and (booking details still to be announced) The Waves and The Voyage Out in St Ives in the autumn. Last but not least, join us to revel in the art and literature of Proust & the Belle Epoque in Paris in September.

Some reflections from participants in past studies:
The Odyssey on Agistri

“Discussing Homer whilst gazing out at the Aegean . . . . heaven!”
“It was a wonderful week – stimulating, informative, fun. You laid all the necessary foundations and the group dynamic supplied that extra magic that made the week so memorable.”
Reading the Body in Umbria

“This was a rich and revivifying experience – physically because of the wonderful yoga, and spiritually and intellectually through our collective reading of one of the great 19th Century novels.”
Virginia Woolf in St Ives

“The two facilitators were wonderful – knowledgeable and sensitive, understanding in depth not just the book but the group as a whole. The food, wine and games were also fantastic. We discussed the text at length and I believe everyone felt they had gained a good understanding of the book.”
